Foto profilo Maurizio SpotoGraduated in Biological Sciences with a specialization in Functional Marine Ecology at the Department of Biology of the University of Trieste, Maurizio Spoto has been responsible for the Miramare Marine Protected Area since 1989, appointed by WWF Italy. Over the past thirty years, he has worked on dozens of projects focusing on the management and conservation of protected areas, scientific monitoring, ecotourism, and environmental education, collaborating with several leading national and international scientific institutions. 

A nature guide since 1988, he is the author of numerous publications on eco-ethology and on monitoring and management systems for protected areas, as well as naturalist and popular guides on the environments of Friuli Venezia Giulia and on the identification of marine and terrestrial animals. 

He is an Associate Researcher at OGS – the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (Section of Oceanography), and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Trieste, Department of Life Sciences – Marine and Coastal Environmental Sciences (SAMAC), where he teaches Principles of Marine Protected Area Management.
