The 30x30 challenge and the importance of Marine Protected Areas
In this lesson, Giulia Prato, Head of the Marine Office at WWF Italy, guides us through the global 30x30 challenge: protecting at least 30% of the oceans by 2030. This ambitious goal involves strengthening and expanding Marine Protected Areas, which are key tools for safeguarding marine biodiversity and enhancing the resilience of Mediterranean ecosystems.

Since 2016, she has been coordinating several projects at WWF Italy related to fisheries management and marine protected areas.
She holds a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Pisa and a Marie Curie PhD from the University of Nice, focused on the study and monitoring of marine food webs within Marine Protected Areas, with particular attention to the key role of top predators.
